WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1, Edith Annette Deel Alvis Edith Annette Deel Alvis, 68, of Spanish Oaks Concord, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of John Pleasant Alvis, Ill. Born in Roanoke, on Feb. 5, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Russell Ryland Deel and Mary Lucy Obenshain Deel. Annette was an active member of Hebron Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir.

She was an elementary school teacher, teaching in Botetourt, Appomattox, and Campbell Counties. In addition to her husband she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John Russell (Rusty) and Stephanie G. Alvis; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer A. and Mark T. Perry; four granddaughters, Morgan and Madison Alvis and Marissa and Isabella Perry, all of Concord; two sisters, Judy and Mary Deel, both of Fincastle and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June .3, 2011, at Hebron Baptist Church by the Rev. Tom Walker with burial following in the church cemetery. Robert Hugh Irby and Willie Florence Bailess Irby. She attended First Altavista Pentecostal Holiness Church, was a retired employee of General Electric, a member of the GEERA Program, and loved traveling. She is survived by six brothers, Paul Irby and his wife Inez of Gretna, Tim Irby and his wife Joyce of Motley, Enek Irby and his wife Barbara of Forest, Sam Irby of Hurt, Buck Irby of Sycamore, and Dwight Irby and his wife Debbie of High Point, North Carolina; two sisters, Vera Hall of Altavista and Naomi McGhee of Danville.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Irby; and two sisters, Odessa and Evelyn Irby.
