When applying for a Resident Permit (RP) in Qatar, you will need to undertake a Medical Check and Fingerprinting to qualify. Usually, your sponsor will apply for these through the Immigration Department, and you need only to turn up. Many companies also organise medical checks and fingerprinting for family members joining under a Family Visa.
A medical check is also compulsory for visitors, staying under a Family Visit Visa, who wish to extend their stay beyond the 30-day visa validity period. If your family is visiting you under a Family Visit Visa and would like to extend their stay, you will need to organise the medical checks yourself.
The following information provides a step-by-step guide to undertaking the required medical checks and fingerprinting for RP and visa extension applications.

Medical Check

The Medical Commission, a department of the Ministry of Public Health, is responsible for overseeing the medical check procedure for immigration in Qatar. Medical checks are carried out at:

  • The Medical Commission Department, located off of Rawdat Al Khail Street in the Abu Hamour area;
  • Three private hospitals (Al Ahli Hospital, Doha Clinic and Al Emadi Hospital) approved by the Medical Commission;
  • Three primary healthcare centres (Al Khor Healthcare Centre, Al Shamal Healthcare Centre and Al Wakra Healthcare Centre) approved by the Medical Commission.

Click here for Medical Commission, hospital and healthcare contact details.

The procedures and requirements for the medical check are relatively straightforward for both the Resident Permit and Family Visit Visa extension applications. The standard immigration medical check for an RP application involves a blood test and an x-ray. The blood test checks for Hepatitis B and C and HIV/Aids and the x-ray for tuberculosis. The visa extension medical check involves the blood test only.

Residency Permit Medical Checks

  • The medical check for residency permit applications is required within the first few days of arriving in Qatar. The time period for completing the medical check is written on the entry visa.
  • Medical checks are applicable for all adults over 15 years of age. Children are not required to undertake the medical check.
  • Nationals from Bangladesh, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Sudan are required to undertake a medical check prior to entering Qatar. Medical checks within those countries must be at clinics approved by the Medical Commission. A list of approved clinics can be found, by country, on the Ministry of Public Health website under eServices.
  • For residents working in restaurants, barbers shops, laundries, health clubs and other public places, medical checks are required on an annual basis. Your employer will be able to tell you if your specific role requires an annual medical.
  • Prior to having a medical check, you first need to obtain a blood-type certificate. For those having their medical check in Qatar, you may visit any medical clinic for the blood-type test (which usually costs a nominal fee of 15 QAR).
  • The following must be presented at the registration desk of the Medical Commission Department, or any of the approved hospitals or healthcare centres, on the day of your medical check:
    • Your original passport;
    • A copy of your entry visa (and your sponsors RP/ID if applying for a Family Visa RP), complete with an emergency contact cell-phone number;
    • A debit/credit card to pay the 100 QAR fee (unless your company has paid already via the online booking system).

Family Visit Visa Medical Checks

  • Medical checks for a visa extension should be undertaken as soon as possible within the 30-day visa validity.
  • Children under 15 years of age are not required to undertake the medical check.
  • The medical check for a visa extension is valid for up to 6 months.
  • The following must be presented at the registration desk of the Medical Commission Department, or any of the approved hospitals or healthcare centres, on the day of your medical check:
    • Your original passport;
    • A copy of your entry visa, complete with an emergency contact cell-phone number;
    • A debit/credit card to pay the 100 QAR fee.

Medical Check Procedures

  • If your company/sponsor has arranged the medical check for you, you will need to arrive at the assigned medical centre on the day and time allotted.
  • If you are organising a medical check for yourself or a family member, you may arrive at your chosen (approved) medical centre on a day and at a time to suit you. The Medical Commission Department is open working days only (Sunday - Thursday) between 7am-7pm. Approved Healthcare Centres and Hospitals operate under varying schedules. Click here to check individual healthcare centre and hospital timings.
  • On arrival at the Medical Commission Department or any of the approved hospitals and healthcare centres, you will need to register and pay for the medical check. The medical check costs 100 QAR at the Medical Commission Department. Costs may vary at hospitals and healthcare centres.
  • Once the blood test and x-ray (if applicable) have been taken, test results will be available within 1-3 days, via the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) website or via Metrash2.
  • You can check your results online by visiting the eServices page of the Ministry of Public Health.

Once the results of your medical check are posted on the MoPH website, you may then have your fingerprints taken for the Resident Permit application, or apply to have your Family Visit Visa extended via the Ministry of Interior (MOI). Applications for extending visas can be made online via the Ministry of Interior website e-services page (MOI e-services are only accessible online in Qatar), via Metrash2, or at any one of the MOI Services Centres.

  • Once the medical check for a Resident Permit application has been completed, you will need to have your fingerprints taken and registered. Fingerprinting can be undertaken at the Criminal Evidence and Investigation Department (CEID) on the Salwa Road (7am - 12 noon, Sunday to Thursday), or at one of the MOI Service Centres across Qatar.
  • Fingerprinting is not required for Visa Extensions.
  • The following must be presented at the registration desk of the CEID or any of the MOI Service Centres:
    • A completed fingerprint registration document (available on arrival);
    • Your original passport (the original and a copy) and visa (if applicable);
    • A request letter from your sponsor (i.e. company/sponsor);
    • A copy of your sponsor’s details and passport (i.e. spouse/parent)
    • A copy of your blood group certificate;
    • A copy of your medical check report;
    • 2 passport-sized pictures (blue background);
    • 10 QAR for stamps.
  • Once you have had your fingerprints taken, they will be uploaded to the MOI system, which may take between 3-5 days. When the fingerprint documents have been uploaded, an SMS will be sent to your registered cell-phone. You may then return to the CEID, or to the service centre used, to pick up the relevant documents (unless they are forwarded directly to your company/sponsor).
  • If you are completing the Resident Permit application for yourself or a family member, you will need to take all the relevant documentation, including medical check results and fingerprint registration document, to the Immigration Department at Al Gharafa or one of the MOI Service Centres to process.
