MEET OUR FERTILITYDOCTORS

Mid-Iowa Fertility is led by Dr. Brian Cooper and Dr. Donald Young. With more than 40 years of combined experience, they have extensive expertise in diagnosing and effectively treating all types of infertility, from the most basic cases to the highly complex cases.

Donald C. Young

D.O., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Young opened Mid-Iowa Fertility in 1993 and serves as the Medical Director of the practice. He received his BA from Drake University in 1981 and then attended Des Moines University, graduating in 1985. Dr. Young completed his internship at the University of Iowa, followed by his Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at David Grant USAF Medical Center, Travis AFB, California, graduating in 1989.

After finishing his US Air Force active duty commitment, he completed his Reproductive Endocrinology Infertility fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in 1993.He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Brian C. Cooper

M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Cooper attended the University of Michigan receiving his B.S, in Chemistry and Molecular Biology in 1994. He graduated in the top 10 of his class from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1999.

After receiving his MD, he completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Iowa, Dr. Cooper completed his Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Training at the University of Vermont.

He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Cooper joined Mid-Iowa Fertility in 2006.

Trenton Place

D.O., Ph. D

Dr. Place attended the University of Iowa where he received a B.S. in Biological Sciences and Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology. He attended medical school at Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and later returned to the University of Iowa for his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. As a resident, he received the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Resident Award for his dedication to patient care, and was also recognized for his excellence as a laparoscopic surgeon. Dr. Place completed his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Southern California and joined Mid-Iowa Fertility in the summer of 2022. He is board-eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Sarah attended both UNI and Grandview and earned her BA in Leisure, Youth and Human Services. She has worked in healthcare since finishing college and loves interacting with patients on a daily basis. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband Vincent, and their kids, and she loves cheering at all of her children’s athletic endeavors. If Sarah gets a moment to herself, reading and fishing top her list.

SHANNON

Shannon is married with three busy children. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a degree in Health Promotion. In her free time, she enjoys running, yoga, reading and attending her children’s activities.

MARISSA

A native of Indianola, Marissa supports the Mid-Iowa Fertility team in many roles, including supporting our front desk team, drawing blood, and assisting in IVF procedures.

MEET OURNURSES

Our compassionate nurses are dedicated to providing each of our patients with special attention and personalized care. All of our nurses work closely with their patients to educate them about fertility treatments or surgeries, as well as to coordinate these procedures. We maintain close contact with patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) to monitor progress at each step during the process.

JOLIE

Jolie has been with Mid-Iowa Fertility since 1999 and attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. Prior to joining the Mid-Iowa Fertility team, she was in the NICU and pediatric office of Dr. Carole Rodemyer. Jolie is married with two children, and in her free time, she enjoys walking for exercise, cooking, baking and gardening.

R.N., BA

Senta received her BA in Marketing in 2004 and decided to return to school for Nursing. She attended Greenville Tech in Greenville, South Carolina, where she received her Associates Degree in Nursing in 2011. Since becoming an RN, she has worked as a nurse in the Fertility field. In her spare time, she likes to spend time with her husband and son outdoors, especially on the golf course.

Michelle began serving patients at Mid-Iowa Fertility in 2019. A graduate of Mercy College of Health Sciences, she brings experience with patients from her work at local hospitals as well as with the Polk County Department of Sexual Assault and Advocacy

A dedicated member of our team since 2016, Shelley earned her degree at Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines. She brings extensive experience in obstetrical care from her time working at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Sheila has an Associate’s Degree and Registered Nursing degree from Mercy College of Health Sciences. She has been with Mid-Iowa Fertility since 2007. Sheila is one of our Third Party Coordinators and Nurse Coordinators helping, patients navigate through their journey of expanding their family. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 daughters. She also enjoys running, reading, and lounging poolside.

Lisa received her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the College of St. Catherine in 1994. She started in the area of fertility in Minnesota in 1999, and with her relocation to Iowa, she joined Mid-Iowa Fertility in 2012. Lisa is married with 3 children and a fur baby appropriately named, Shadow. She loves to travel, watching her kids’ sporting events, being an avid DIYer, reading with her book club, gardening and enjoying the summer weather boating with family and friends.

KAREN

R.N., BS

Karen received her Associate Degree in Nursing from DMACC and has a Bachelor of Science Degree from Iowa State University. She joined Mid-Iowa Fertility in 2012. Karen is married with three kiddos – one beautiful daughter and a pair of handsome twin boys. Her life is consumed with their schedules, work, and household duties. Hobbies include long-distance running, biking, coffee-drinking and conversing with friends and family. She enjoys her peaceful small neighborhood surrounded by trees, trails, and water.

MEET OUR FERTILITY LAB TEAM

State of the art and on the leading edge of reproductive science, Mid-Iowa Fertility’s laboratory is exceptional in many areas, including the level of training and certification of the staff, the quality of laboratory standards and the vital lab security. The lab staff are trained and qualified to perform ICSI, assisted hatching, embryo cryopreservation, biopsy for PGD and other laboratory procedures. All egg retrievals and embryo transfers take place in our office. The Lab is C.A.P. and C.L.I.A. accredited.

Sarah earned her master’s degree at the University of Nebraska. Her experience includes working at multiple fertility centers in the Minneapolis area. She recently returned to Iowa and joined our IVF laboratory team and performs semen analyses and hormone testing.

HANNAH

A graduate of Truman State University majoring in chemistry, Hannah joined Mid-Iowa Fertility in 2017. As a skilled embryologist, she works in the IVF laboratory as well as performing semen analyses and hormone testing. Outside the lab, she enjoys dog sitting and exploring downtown Des Moines.

Holly M.T. has her B.S. from Iowa State University and has been with Mid-Iowa Fertility since 1998. Holly is certified by A.B.B. in Embryology and Andrology. Holly is married with a daughter and a son. She’s proud to be from Iowa but struggles through our winters.

Jessica received her training in Los Angeles, CA. She Graduated 2001 as a Registered Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist. She is married with 4 children. She enjoys spending every free moment with her family.

Office Manager

Monica manages the administration staff and is the financial coordinator for Mid-Iowa Fertility. She will help you in clarifying the complicated aspects of health insurance. You can make an appointment with her in person or set up a telephone conference. She is available to assist you with all financial and insurance matters throughout your treatment cycle. Monica and her husband have two adult daughters, and in her free time, she loves to travelandcheer for her Iowa Hawkeyes.

Whitney, in our billing and insurance department, will assist you with any billing questions you might have for services received in our office. Whitney has been with Mid-Iowa Fertility since 2007 starting out as front desk staff and transitioning into the billing department. She is married with 2 beautiful daughters. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading and cooking.
